The publication of IjtihadReason stems in part from the work of the Malta Forum, a volunteer organization that brings together leading public intellectuals from the Middle East and North Africa with their counterparts from the United States. The Forum promotes collaborative research and sustained dialogue in order to clarify differences and identify common ground on key Islam/West issues. The first meeting took place in Malta in May of 2004. The Co-Chairs of the Malta Forum are Ridwan al-Sayyid and David Blankenhorn.
